From humble beginnings we have grown to become a proud and dynamic school. We look back with sincere gratitude, but our focus strongly remains on the challenges of the future. Our learners are our largest asset and we are firmly committed to give them an education to be proud of.

Durbanville Preparatory School supports our learners “Step by step” to build a strong future. Go Durbies!

January

1966

The Preparatory School opens its doors for the first time, with Mrs Sterna Minnaar as principal. Her staff consists of six teachers.

1971

Proposals for a school weapon and motto are requested. The winning suggestion, “Step by Step / Trap vir Trap”, was proposed by Mr Albert de Jager, who was the arts editor of Farmer’s Weekly at that time.

1973

The School Hall is formally opened with a concert comprising of six items.

1976

Our school’s growth is evident with the total number of learners reaching 513. Mr Eugene Marais is appointed as the new principal.

1978

This is a proud year in our history when the Durbanville Prep School Song is composed by Ms Rika Nel. We are all very proud of our School Song.

1993 - 2018

In 1993 Mr Dolph Nortier gets appointed as principal, a position he holds for 25 years. Under his dynamic leadership numerous changes and improvements take place. His enthusiasm is contagious and introduces a new era in our school’s history. Some of the highlights of his era include:

An annual school concert
An Orff orchestra was started in 1993
Our own rugby field was inaugurated in 1998
Xhosa is presented as a third language for our Grade 3 learners (since 2004)
A yearly theme
A computer class
Our own Pre-Primary School (since 1994)
Annual netball and rugby days
Construction and inauguration of the Tienie Louw After Care centre
Interactive white boards are used in Grade 2 and Grade 3 classes
Bernard Andrag Swimming Pool

2019 - currently

Mrs Adél Mostert takes the reins in her competent hands.
